The Institute started from the academic year 2006-07 with four branches of B.Tech four years degree course and has been approved by AICTE, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.It is affiliated to Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun.Laboratories of the institute have been equipped with state of art experimental gadgets.

Himalayan Charitable Trust (HCT), Roorkee has established Roorkee Institute of Technology (RIT) to impart best of engineering education with quality and excellence, upcoming in the scenic background of green fields, tall trees and in the vicinity of large number of industries. RIT is located in the sprawling 15 acre campus on Roorkee - Dehradun road at a distance of 8 km from Roorkee.Roorkee town is famous for engineering education for the last more then 160 years and is known as the technical hub of India.

The foundation of college was laid under the guidance of Shri Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Govt. of India on April 20, 1986 during the reign of Late Chief Minister Shri Veer Bahadur Singh when 155 acres of land was allotted for college by the UP Govt. Academic session in B.E.

Dehradun Institute of Technology established in 1998 is the largest project of Unison Group. The other projects of the group are I.M.S. Noida, I.M.S. Dehradun, DIT-Faculty of Architecture, DIT-Faculty of Pharmacy, Unison School of Law and Unison World School.The Group aims at creating knowledge centers in the field of Education, Training, Research and Consultancy services thereby creating and adding value to the Corporate, Society, Community and the nation at large.

The college of Technology was established in 1966 as a constituent college of the University. Initially the College offered B.Tech. Degree programmes in four disciplines of engineering - Agricultural, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical. Subsequently in 1984 three more disciplines - Computer, Electronics and Communication and Production - came into existence to cope up with the upcoming technological requirement. In between, postgraduate programmes in various specializations were introduced. At present the college runs eight Bachelor degree and Twenty-two post-graduate degree programmes.
