Situated at Hazratbal, an idyllic area on the western side of the fabulous Dal Lake of Srinagar and held in veneration by the Muslims for the beautiful mosque that enshrines the holy hair of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), the University of Kashmir is spread over 263 acres of lush green land with three adjacent campuses of exquisite beauty, Amar Singh Bagh, Naseem Bagh and Mirza Bagh. Amar Singh Bagh is located on the bank of the Dal having on its other three sides a background of mountainous amphitheatre rising to a great height above its crystal clear water.

National Institute of Technology Srinagar is one of the premier Educational Institutes in the Northern Regions of the country. It was established in 1960 and has been one of the eighteenth Regional Engineering Colleges sponsored by the Govt. of India during the 2nd plan. The Institute acquired the status of National Institute of Technology with deemed to be University status during August, 2003 and attained full autonomy in its Academics.The Institute id situated at the the banks of world famous Dal Lake, with the world famous Hazratbal Shrine on other side of the institute campus.

Government Medical College Srinagar, established in 1959 was one of the very first Medical Colleges of Independent India and was ranked among the Top 5 for many decades. Its the premier Government Medical Institution concerned with imparting Health and Medical Education.

Government Medical College, Jammu, a premier institute of J&K was started in the year, 1973 in a temporary building with the object to provide quality education and deliver the health care service to the people of this region. This institution is located in the heart of Temple City Jammu. This institution was started with the aim to train fifty medical students for MBBS course per year and to serve as referral hospital for Jammu Province.

University of Jammu holds examinations, grants degrees, generates knowledge and confers diverse academic distinctions on persons who pursue approved courses of study in the University or in constituent colleges/institutions approved for the purpose also for those who appear as external/private candidates. It also confers honorary degrees or other distinctions on the persons of exceptional caliber. The University also admits, maintains, recognizes, affiliates colleges and other institutions.

Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences was conceived with the following objectives:

The Department of Law came into being in 1969 to impart legal education. Initially the department imparted instructions only to L.L.B. students but subsequently it adopted L.L.M., Doctorate in Law and Post Graduate Diploma in Criminology and Police Science. The Department of Law has an efficient regular faculty and the students are absorbed in teaching, judiciary, and other administrative posts. The post graduate diploma in Human Rights as well as 5 years integrated law course after 10+2 are on the anvil.
